COACH: Terry Bowden — At Akron: 1st year;
OVERALL: 140-62-2, 18 years
OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Terry Bowden
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR: Chuck Amato
LAST LEAGUE TITLE: 2005
LAST BOWL: 2005, Motor City
RETURNING STARTERS: 12; 6 offense, 5 defense, kicker
PLAYERS TO WATCH: QB Dalton Williams, RB Jawon Chisholm, WR Marquelo Suel, WR Keith Sconiers, DE Albert Presley, FS Devonte Morgan, K A.J. Fox
PRIMARY STRENGTHS: Chisholm embraced the challenge from the new coaching staff to become a more versatile tailback. The Zips have talent at wide receiver, but a consistent running game is needed to move the chains and run clock time. On defense, Presley was a bright spot in the spring with his high motor and speed.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS: The Zips simply don’t have enough skill players to be a disruptive force on either side of the ball. Bowden stressed his frustration over Akron’s lack of size on both the offensive and defensive lines. The Zips left the spring with the quarterback spot wide open.
